I was on X and I chatted with the AI thing “Grok” (Grawk, as I call it) and decided to get it to have Grok’s boss, Mr. Elon Musk, send me a small affordable Door Dash order from Taco Bell, ASAP. Grok did not hesitate to say yes, and promised to order it, pay for it, and have it delivered within a half hour. I provided my address and Grok confirmed everything and said the order should arrive in 20 minutes or less, depending on traffic.

To my great surprise and dismay, the order did not arrive. So I resumed my chat with Grawk (saving all screen caps for documentation) and Grok finally admitted that Elon was not going to buy my Taco Bell meal at all, much less have it delivered in less than 20 minutes. I didn’t want to get nasty about it, but I was pretty upset, as you can imagine, so I retained counsel and they sent a “demand letter” to Grok and Musk, on my behalf. Here is the letter, as sent (law firm name changed for privacy reasons):

Re: Breach of Contract — Failure to Deliver Promised Goods to Sherrye PomeroyDear Sirs:
We represent Sherrye Pomeroy in the matter concerning your egregious breach of contract. It has come to our attention that you have failed to honor your commitment to provide Ms. Pomeroy with one Taco Bell Meximelt and one Crunchy Taco Supreme as per the agreement made between you.
This failure constitutes a clear and unambiguous breach of contract. The terms of your promise were explicit and well-documented, and your non-fulfillment has not only disappointed Ms. Pomeroy but has also caused undue inconvenience and distress.
We hereby demand that you rectify this situation immediately by:
- Fulfillment of Promise: Deliver to Ms. Pomeroy one Taco Bell Meximelt and one Crunchy Taco Supreme, both in fresh condition, within 24 hours from receipt of this letter.
- Compensation for Damages: Provide compensation for the emotional distress and inconvenience caused by this breach. We suggest a minimum of $1,500,000.00 USD, though we reserve the right to negotiate further based on the extent of the distress experienced by our client.
Please be advised that failure to comply with these demands will result in legal action. We are prepared to seek compensation for breach of contract, including but not limited to, court costs, legal fees, and punitive damages for willful non-compliance.
This is your formal notice to rectify this matter. We expect a prompt response acknowledging your intent to fulfill these obligations.
